Terms and Conditions

Preamble

Com-SWIRLS / SwirlsPy (the “Software”) is developed by the Hong Kong Observatory to facilitate knowledge exchange and cooperation on development of rainfall nowcasting technique. It may be used by National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) upon request.

Registration

To make a request for the Software, please send an email to <swirls@hko.gov.hk> with the required information as follow:

    You can include other information about your purposes of application of the Software and plan of using Com-SWIRLS.

Note:

  1. In order to establish the identity of the requester, the email shall be sent from an official email address ending with the domain name of your NMHS. Please note that request sent from general email services, such as Gmail, Yahoo and iCloud, etc will not be accepted. If you have difficulty in using the domain name of your NMHS, please explain in the email message body.

  2. Please also note that the requested username may be taken by other existing users. In that case, we shall assign a new username instead.

  3. Once the registration process is completed, the requester would receive a confirmation email and should follow the instructions in the confirmation email to finish the registration process.

Agreements

  • The Software shall not be partially or totally transferred to a third party;

  • The Software or its derived products shall not be used for commercial purpose; and

  • Due acknowledgement to the HKO shall be given in papers and reports containing results made or derived from the application or use of the Software.

Hong Kong Observatory (HKO) and the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSARG) (including its servants and agents), make no warranty, statement or representation, express or implied, with respect to the accuracy, availability, completeness or usefulness of the information, contained herein, and in so far as permitted by law, shall not have any legal liability or responsibility (including liability for negligence) for any loss, damage, or injury (including death) which may result, whether directly or indirectly, from the supply or use of the Software.
